eTrade is requiring a copy of my SS card (mine is in a Safe Deposit box a large annoyance away) which is NOT required by the Patriot Act CIP requirements ( I just read the CIP documents), ID with a picture is required by the CIP and I can easily provide an ID, but for eTrade it's not enough. eTrade seems to have their own version of the Patriot Act. I made several stock trades in 2014, many of which trade withheld funds for "state taxes". I've been going back and forth with the state and etrade for nearly a year now with no progress, a ton of frustration, and a tax bill and penalties for unpaid taxes. Etrade says they've paid the state, the state doesn't have an account or information for etrade to pay them. Etrade can't show a paper trail as to where my money went. Looks to me like etrade stole my money leaving me on the hook for taxes. Read more

After being a long term(25 year) client with balance once over $1 million and now less than $100,000, never failed to meet margin calls, never being exposed to sellouts and over this time, brought in many new clients, Etrade suddenly raised my minimum maintenance from 25% to 65% creating an immediate very substantial margin call, even with the current poor market and my equity above 50%. etrade has my money and won't let me get it back, i sent a external deposit and a wire totaling $20,000. etrade won't let me access my money, i have never used the account yet. did not make one trade. i talk to tiffany evans, she promised me today at 3:30 pm central time that i could contact customer service and range my transfer of funds. i called they told me no, there are no notes and there is nothing they can do.. My husband died March 2013 and ever since that time i have been fighting E Trade to get the funds in our Living Trust transferred to my name. I have sent E Trade all the documents I have in my possession and they still will not release the funds The original account we had was apparently closed by E Trade, and a new account opened without my approval. Be aware of Etrade. This company above did a split on Friday December 4 2015 it was noted on my account that the split took place 12 to 1. But on Monday December 7, 2015, the stock was completely missing from my portfolio. I called many times I was told the company did a split and that the system has not been updated when in fact the system was already uploaded. Somebody somewhere somehow changed the system so no one could sell the stock because they waited until the close of business to sell and they waited until the stock went down to allow... Read more

When this summer I was on vacation in Georgia (my native country is Armenia) I tried to access my account in Etrade but it was blocked "due to unusual activity". They asked me to call them by phone so that they could verify my identity. I called the Account Activation Services and explained that the person who tried to enter my account was me being on vacation in Georgia. My trading was blocked after I used an iPhone to make a trade because I have not used before. I am okay with that BUT I spent 20 minutes on the phone verifying a number of pieces of information and they said it would be unblocked in a few minutes. When I checked a few days later, it was still blocked! I spent another 40 minutes on the phone in which they said it would take another 24 hours but I could call in a trade. It is a good thing prices don't change in the 10 to 15 minutes it takes for me to call in and request a trade. Ridiculous!... Read more
