Will someone remind eTrade that it is 2014 and most people who might have a brokerage account might login through multiple devices from different locations in the world. I have to go to the American embassy to get some vague documentation that I am me before eTwads will unfreeze my account.

Their security folks seem like mall cops. Totally suspicious idiots. I almost heard him say "aha" when I didn't have a phone number from 20years ago. I answered all other questions but not good enough for Sherlock.

How about security questions for new devices or cards that generate authorization numbers? Nope more fun to be jerks and lock you out.

Unacceptable. Once I am unlocked everything will be transferred out!

Currently had etrade lock my accounts when i opened a second joint account. SMH!

I've been trying to get my account unlocked for over a month. I've sent them everything they've asked for 3 different times and had several long phone calls.

Still locked. Don't do business with these people.

Why didn't you get an attorney involved? It is against the law to keep a customer's account locked indefinitely, particularly when you have provided ALL of the necessary documentation to establish there is no reason for it to be locked. Period.

Same thing happend to me, twice, when I changed ISP and I logged into their mobile app. I'm still in the same place.

Never changed address, email, phone # for many years and they lock me out. They call me on my own phone #! Still, after I answered all their account questions -- DOB, SS#, address, name, etc, 100% and still they won't unlock my account without a letter, a license, a passport. Am I a criminal for doing nothing more than switching ISP?

Why not skip all the questions if they don't even matter, and demand my passport and DNA test? No other bank or brokerage pulls this TSA *** for MY money -- I answer a few account questions and I'm verified.

These dopes hold on to your money so tight I think something is really wrong with the company, and I will not risk being at the pointy end of these CSRs again. I am transfferring my account out right now.

They have a cheap security system. This wouldn't happen with another type of account as they would have ways to authenticate the account.

And they know it. No other bank is set up this way yet they are allowed to act as a bank. Read the other stories of account lock outs by them. The security guy was a total ***.

Don't defend etrade's antiquated security system. It makes me think that you work for them.

The other side of this: you would be REALLY angry if some perpetrator broke in and stole your money. It has happened.

The only crooks of concern here is etrade.

They will use any excuse to lockyour money down saying it is for your own security despite only change was isp.

They only get worse in your time of urgent financial need.

They did it to me 2013 then twice in 2014, there are other very detailed complaints on the web of their delay and obstruct tactics. My eyes finally opened and thankfully I got out before same or worse happened.

Get away from them FAST.
