Verified ReviewerAccount issues concerning deposits
Was told that the account needed verification and a valid picture ID was requested to be uploaded inside the app portal for further verification.
- Not sure
Preferred solution: Access to my restricted accounts and confirmation.of external accounts routing and account numbers.
User's recommendation: Expect and ask when the picture ID should be uploaded thru your app portal for complete verification process.

Verified ReviewerDifficulty opening a Trust Account
Started in March 2025, 4 months ago sent in my application.
It's always someone who will be in touch in 4 to 5 days.
2 weeks later, I called them for the status.
Unprofessional office management.
Someone put me on hold for 30 min,
or someone said it's another 4-5 days.
Need to have a new doc or need another signature.
It will be another 4-5 days.
After 4 months of this crap,
I finally got an account opened, deposited my $50k retirement.
Then the account was frozen because they need more docs!
Finally, I just asked for my money back.
- It was a miserable experience
- Wasted days of effort
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: Do not use Etrade, unprofessional office management

Verified ReviewerNot honoring new account promotion
I opened an IRA account based on a promotion. When I was getting ready to fund it, the customer service agent said I was not eligible for any promotions.
The customer service is awful; they don't appear to be offshored, but people who don't know how to do their jobs. The 3rd time I asked for a manager, I was told that a manager would call me back tomorrow.
It never happened. I have had several brokerage accounts there for 22 years, so much for loyalty.
Preferred solution: promotion that I was offered
User's recommendation: Stay away if you can
Holding an account hostage
partner and i separated, had joint account, unmarried. i asked to take her off the account as we both agreed it was fine.
i said that out loud to etrade and boom the account was frozen. i cant trade or do anything with the account. its there and i can see it but thats it. many hours and several years later it's still frozen.
we both signed a letter digitally saying we agree and that wasn't enough. ive been with them over 25 years. im not impressed with customer service.
when they do this after years of loyalty they've crossed the line. they were better before they became morgan stanley!
User's recommendation: be careful!
Customer service

Verified ReviewerTOTAL FRUSTRATION WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE
E*Trade's customer service has become so deplorable that I feel like filing a lawsuit against them for the loss of time and suffering mental anguish. For one month, I have been trying to get done a simple RMD from my IRA account.
After at least 10 phone calls and long conversations, including submissions of various completed forms, it is still not done. All calls are handled by a 'call center'. Did anyone here know that? Most of those people are poorly trained, if at all.
As a family, we have close to 1 million dollars in IRAs with them. That may be pocket change for some, but it is significant for us. Anyway, I am about to write a scathing review on every consumer advocacy platform, including a complaint to the BBB. It's the one thing I must do.
Y'all should do it too. Thanks!

Verified ReviewerEtrade took my rollover IRA. NOW THEY HOLD IT HOSTAGE.
They refuse to give a reason for holding my IRA hostage. Apparently, either rolling my IRA into Etrade or requesting a withdrawal was what they consider suspicious activity and locked up my money! So far, it has been a month!
- Crooks
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Stay away from etrade like your financial health depends on it. It does!

Verified ReviewerNon existent customer service
After my husband died I went through the long and painful process of having his assets transferred to my name and brokerage. It took several tries and the patience and help of my current brokerage and I finally got it all done in about 2020.
Note that he died in 2011.
However, there is one cent left in his Roth IRA. And to this day I get a paper statement with the one cent balance, every quarter.
- No customer service
Preferred solution: The account closed
User's recommendation: Use a different brokerage
Lost access to my account to trade due to their software malfunctioning and non-existent customer service!

It would be the perfect time for you to file a complaint with the Congress Financial Services Committee.
They oversee the SEC and FINRA. E*Trade has probably told you to file a complaint with the FINRA. Dont fall for it. Ive been trying to get my money back for 4 1/2 years and the Attorneys for E*Trade are very, powerful and bullies!
E*Trade also laughed at me when they told me that I could go through FINRA arbitration because they knew that it is fixed and that they will win!
The chair of the committee is Patrick McHenry. His phone number is 1 (20*) ***-****.
The email for the committee to file a complaint is FSR.voicemail@***.house.gov
You may want to call his office to verify that email before you send in your complaint.
Ive also learned that you must ask them through their email address to give you an update because if you call on the phone, they wont tell you anything.
I just updated my complaint and added to it early this morning.
I was a PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR when I was younger and when I see something crooked, I investigate. I have been investigating the SEC, FINRA, E*Trade and Morgan Stanley.
You are not alone I have thousands of screenshots of people having similar issues and similar issues to the problem I had. I saw one of their employees posted on Reddit that the previous E*TRADE employees feel for their customers but Morgan Stanley likes to eat their money.
He doesnt know why and theyre afraid to ask because they would get fired. I have also discovered that an attorney that represents investors via arbitration wont take a case unless the investor has lost at least $50,000. I have also found that those attorneys that like doing FINRA arbitrations also are probably being paid off by the brokerages to convince the investor to settle for a much lower amount. The only evidence I have is a couple of attorneys saying they wont even touch a FINRA arbitration because they know its crooked.
Also, I originally had an attorney and he immediately tried to get me to agree to a low settlement when he didnt even understand my case yet, but was very anxious to take my case.
I also have found that the arbitrators have no benefit in ruling in the favor of an investor because most investors that have to go through the arbitration process to get their money back will probably never want to invest ever again. Where the brokerages are repeat customers for an arbitrator and an arbitrator wants to be picked by the brokerages to arbitrate more cases because thats how they make their money.
I could tell you a lot more, but you have probably discovered quite a bit yourself and if you would like to share information, I am actually writing a book to warn people about how there is collusion between the SEC, FINRA and brokerages.
User's recommendation: Please, please file a complaint immediately with the congressional financial services committee.

Verified ReviewerYour personal & financial info will NOT be secure
I have been a client for close to 30 years. Recently, it took e*trade almost 6 full months, and MANY follow up calls from me, before they were able to STOP haphazardly changing my mailing address and verification phone number WITHOUT my request or consent.
During this time, they also sent letters to my address that were to clients who are not me.
They also never followed up with me, and changed my representative multiple times without providing me with notice.
I have a lot of history with them, and I'm strongly considering transferring my remaining assets out. For anyone new, STAY AWAY.
User's recommendation: STAY AWAY

Verified ReviewerResolved: Terrible customer service. Long hold time to speak to person.
Did not pay for bonus offer for second account. Called 5+ times and told marketing director to give resolution.
3 months later have not received bonus offer. Etrade has very poor service and has to ask Morgan Stanley for answers and Morgan Stanley does not respond or reply. Etrade is self directed accounts and wants to upsell you to managed account at Morgan Stanley.
Very disappointed wth Etrade. Wouldn't have opened new account if had known customer service is terrible.
- Has good brokered cd rates
- Poor customer service
Preferred solution: Get my 300.00 USD for new account bonus for the 2nd account I opened
User's recommendation: Don't use Etrade unless you like to wait on hold for hours! Etrade also made me go through confirmation of funding accounts and called funding accounts to ensure the funds were good before doing ACAT transfer
Customer service is TERRIBLE. I have a "platinum" advisor and they are still poorly trained and gave zero follow through abilities. Goal appears to be to just to get you off the phone.
I transferred from TD for the bonus money when TD moved to Schwabb. Worst financial mistake I have ever made.
I am now on 3 months with e trade just trying to transfer securities to one of my accounts. An internal transfer. 9 phone calls, 4 different agents, one VP, 3 forms and still not done. Also took several months to get all initial funds transferred when e trade sent money back to TD then told me it was my problem to fix.
I spent about 20 hours on the phone getting their mistake corrected. It is truly hard to express how terrible their customer service is.
Run away if you are looking at using these guys. I need to transfer to another brokerage but I am scared shitless as to how bad they can screw this up.
User's recommendation: You have been warned. Stay away. If you never need assistance they are great but if you do good luck.

I have been trying to get a check from my IRA for over two months. I have completed 4 forms, called numerous times, been told everything from it was the wrong form to my birthday is wrong to its in process, and you missed one digit in an Account number.
I have called 8 times. Completed 4 forms. Been hung up on, asked for managers and been refused, the service is HORRIFIC. I put a claim in with the BBB and am hoping someone can help me.
